What is National Mentoring Month?

The project to raise awareness of the demand for additional mentors was established in 2002 by MENTOR National and the Harvard School of Public Health. National Mentoring Month has received official recognition from Congress and previous presidents Obama and Bush.


The Power of Mentors and why mentorship matters


The personal and professional growth of an individual can be significantly impacted through mentoring. In addition to acting as a role model and sounding board, a mentor may offer direction, counsel, and support. Mentors can also open doors to new possibilities, offer criticism, and assist mentees in overcoming obstacles. Mentorship may also assist mentees gain essential real-world experience and knowledge by bridging the gap between theory and practice. In general, mentoring may be extremely important in assisting people in realizing their potential and achieving their goals.


A crucial sense of connection and belonging may also be offered via mentoring. A mentor may be a source of inspiration and motivation, aiding mentees in developing self-confidence and self-esteem. For underrepresented groups like women and people of color who could encounter additional obstacles to success, this might be especially crucial. As mentees may benefit from the experiences of others and develop a sense of belonging within their sector or area, mentoring can also generate a sense of community and support.
